Q. I have used soap and water on my face for
years. It's cheap and seems to clean my skin, but my skin does hurt and feels
tight.
A. Soap is made from fats and alkali solution. These harsh
ingredients can strip oils from the skin leaving it dry and irritated.
Soap can also leave a residue when it reacts with calcium, magnesium,
and other minerals sometimes present in water; this film can irritate
skin further.
Soap has a built-in
incompatibility with skin. Soap's pH is generally too alkaline (meaning
the pH level is greater than 7). Our skin is slightly acidic with a pH
of 5 to 6. The pH of most bar soaps is around 10. Although your skin
might feel clean, this change in the skin's pH can leave you with a
tight feeling.
A better answer for the well being of your
skin and your appearance is a well balanced skincare regimen like
Noevir.
