Q: I use a lip balm all the time, but my lips
still crack and bleed. I have switched brands, but nothing works. What's the
deal?
A: Zap chapped lips by
staying away from products that contain phenol, an active ingredient in many
medicated lip balms (check out your labels, I found phenol in Lip Medex and
others). Phenol is very drying. Once you apply the balm, the dryness prompts you
to reapply, you use more product, your lips stay dry, you use more product, your
lips stay dry--you get the idea! Sounds like a good money making idea for the
lip balm companies that use this ingredient. Check out your products.
